Immersion programs relocate individuals into an unfamiliar environment for a period of time for the purpose of providing meaningful learning opportunities.
‘2 Way Learning’ recognises the importance of connecting people to build knowledge and foster authentic relationships. To this end, two distinct Immersion Programs are offered – Outbound Immersion Program and Inbound Immersion Program.
The Outbound program offers non-Aboriginal students from major cities an immersion experience in the remote home community of Aboriginal students.
The Inbound program relocates Aboriginal students from rural or urban NSW into the Sydney CBD for intensive literacy training through experiential learning activities.
Students require competencies to navigate culturally diverse and digitally connected communities.
‘2 Way Learning’ connects people from different cultures and backgrounds to learn with and from each other. International students are provided with experiential learning opportunities in 5 distinct Australian settings to build knowledge and foster authentic respectful relationships. Through the programs students will
- acknowledge and value the diversity of people
- display intercultural sensitivity, respect and appreciation
- understand international concerns relating to social justice and gender equity
- understand the importance of relationships between humans and the environment.
‘2 Way Learning’ Service Learning programs are specifically designed for Aboriginal students from remote or rural locations to engage in activities that address social and environmental needs outside Australia.
The two programs are
Third World School Program in which students live and work within a community to focus on
- social and environmental issues
- educational development
- customs and culture
- authentic relationships
Animal Conservation Program in which students work with animal conservation groups to focus on
- the impact of human intervention
- animal cruelty and measures to reduce these practices
- monitoring animals
- treating and rehabilitating injured animals
- advocacy mediums for the support of animal welfare.
